Ukraine Hosts Its First OSINT Hackathon. Fund “Safe Ukraine 2030” was a co-host of the event.
On November 5–6, 2024, the inaugural Ukrainian OSINT Hackathon took place, organized with the support of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity (NCCIR) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC).
This two-day event was designed to enhance the technological capabilities and expertise of Ukrainian law enforcement and intelligence agencies in identifying and prosecuting war criminals, as well as improving methods for the effective and thorough investigation of war crimes. A particular focus was placed on investigating crimes involving the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, shelling of civilian infrastructure, and torture of prisoners of war, with the goal of identifying perpetrators and ensuring their accountability.
The hackathon gathered 25 teams and 257 participants from 14 state agencies and non-governmental organizations. Notably, it led to the resolution of several real-world cases and fostered numerous partnerships that are expected to support future successful investigations.
Winners of the Ukrainian OSINT Hackathon:
1st Place: Sunflower Team – Ground Forces, Armed Forces of Ukraine
2nd Place: BG Investigators – State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
3rd Place: Data Hunters – State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine
